Impact of Floating Neutral in Power Distribution

Introduction:

  • If The Neutral Conductor opens, Break or Loose at either its source side (Distribution Transformer, Generator or at Load side (Distribution Panel of Consumer), the distribution system’s neutral conductor will “float” or lose its reference ground Point. The floating neutral condition can cause voltages to float to a maximum of its Phase volts RMS relative to ground, subjecting to its unbalancing load Condition.
  •  Floating Neutral conditions in the power network have different impact depending on the type of Supply, Type of installation and Load balancing in the Distribution. Broken Neutral or Loose Neutral would damage to the connected Load or Create hazardous Touch Voltage at equipment body. Here We are trying to understand the Floating Neutral Condition in T-T distribution System.

Abstract reasoning question

Question 1: Identify the missing square

Abstract reasoning tests are designed to be challenging, in order to differentiate between candidates and to identify the maximum performance they are capable of. They usually have tight time scales, and questions that rapidly increase in difficulty. This means that you will need to identify more rules to solve the problems, and that the complexity of these rules is likely to increase.
While there are many permutations of question types and formats, there are some general concepts which are common, and it can be useful to familiarise yourself with these.

Advices how to calculate the power loss inside the LV switchboard

Power loss and heat dissipation

In order to give the necessary indications on the methods intended to calculate power loss and improve the current carrying capacity of the circuit breakers inside LV switchboard, first of all it is necessary to analyze an assembly from a thermodynamic point of view.

What is the difference between MCB, MCCB, ELCB, and RCCB

MCB (Miniature Circuit Breaker)

Characteristics
  • Rated current not more than 100 A.
  • Trip characteristics normally not adjustable.
  • Thermal or thermal-magnetic operation.

8 steps to begin basic circuit design

NO 1 QUESTION TO ASK YOURSELF BEFORE CHOOSING ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING AS A COURSE OF STUDY

Is Electrical Engineering Right for ME?

Electrical engineering is a field with almost limitless career opportunities. That’s due to the number of sub-disciplines and areas of specializations this field offers.

Tips for Engineering Students

It is very important for every student studying Electrical Engineering who want to stand out among others to put up these few tips in action. electrical engineering is not just a course of study, its a sensitive profession that needs absolute concern. One must be technical oriented, skillful, great analytical reasoning skill, detail oriented etc.

What is Alternating Current (AC)?

Most students of electricity begin their study with what is known as direct current (DC), which is electricity flowing in a constant direction, and/or possessing a voltage with constant polarity. DC is the kind of electricity made by a battery (with definite positive and negative terminals), or the kind of charge generated by rubbing certain types of materials against each other.

What’s the difference between AC and DC?

What’s the difference between AC and DC?

One looks like a straight line, the other a wave; together, they power your laptop…
Alternating current (AC) and direct current (DC) are notable for inspiring the name of an iconic metal band, but they also happen to sit right at the center of the modern world as we know it.

SAFETY TIPS

######SAFETY TIPS#####. Do you know that overloading (OL) your power socketoutlet beyond its design current specification makes it a potential Electrical hazard and capable of causing electrical fire?

Energy generation

Just to refresh our memories on this schematics of energy generation to transmission and distribution sequence!! PRIMETECH ELECTRICAL! We keep to our promises!!

UNSAFE ACT

This is not act of smartness, but act of promoting potential accident zone, which is capable of leading to electrical fire or electrocution to anybody who come in contact with it........ Please do not be a part of this, but against it to save lives and properties. Promote safety by sharing this!!!!!! We are PRIMETECH ELECTRICAL... We kee to our word!

Y/delta motor control

Y/delta motor starter circuit. Contactor K1 was latched for continuous supply of current to the circuit its the main line contactor. When the relay timer coil T is energized it will supply current to contactor K2 which will enable the motor to run in star mode. At the set time the timer will drop which will cut off current from contactor K2 at the instance the other contact of the relay will makeup and supply current to contactor K3 which will make the motor to run in delta mode. The reason for this type of motor starter is becos the quantity of current being drawn from the line when u start directly with delta method is too much. Star connection takes lesser current

RCD

What is an RCD?
An RCD, or residual current device, is a life-saving device which is designed to prevent you from getting a fatal electric shock if you touch something live, such as a bare wire. It can also provide some protection against electrical fires. RCDs offer a level of personal protection that ordinary fuses and circuit-breakers cannot provide.

QUESTION

QUESTION of the Month***** In conduit wiring, the ratings of the wires are higher than that of surface wiring for example lighting points for conduit is 1.5mm while surface is 1.0mm, 13amps Socket outlet is rated at 2.5mm while surface is 1.5mm. My question is what is the reason for this difference since both serves the same purpose....... Please technicalize your answer to prove you are passionate Electrical Engineer or technologist.

WHATS THIS?

In your own word tell us whats this on the picture above?
